Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Installation: AC technicians install new air conditioning systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. This includes assembling and positioning components such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, and ductwork according to manufacturer specifications and building codes.
  • Maintenance: They perform routine maintenance on AC systems to prevent breakdowns and ensure efficient operation. This involves inspecting and cleaning components, checking refrigerant levels, replacing filters, lubricating moving parts, and testing system controls
  • Diagnosis and Repair: AC technicians diagnose and troubleshoot issues with air conditioning systems when they malfunction. They use diagnostic tools to identify problems such as refrigerant leaks, electrical issues, mechanical failures, or airflow problems, and then perform repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Recharging Refrigerant: They handle refrigerants according to EPA regulations, including recovering, recycling, or recharging refrigerant gases used in AC systems to ensure they operate at the correct pressure and temperature levels.
  • Testing and Calibration: AC technicians conduct tests to evaluate the performance of AC systems. This includes measuring airflow, temperature differentials, and system pressures, as well as calibrating thermostats and other controls to ensure accurate operation.
  • Emergency Service: They respond to emergency service calls, especially during extreme weather conditions or when AC systems fail unexpectedly, to restore functionality and comfort to customers.
  • Upgrades and Retrofitting: AC technicians may recommend and install upgrades or modifications to existing AC systems to improve efficiency, reliability, or compliance with environmental regulations. This could involve replacing outdated components or retrofitting systems with newer, more energy-efficient models.
  • Customer Interaction: AC technicians communicate with customers to explain repair or maintenance procedures, provide estimates for services, and offer advice on optimizing energy efficiency or improving indoor air quality.
  • Safety Compliance: They adhere to safety protocols and regulations when handling refrigerants, electrical components, and operating heavy equipment such as lifts or scaffolding during installation or repairs.
