Job Summary

The Accountant will oversee financial operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, budget management, and compliance with industry and regulatory standards. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of accounting principles, internal controls, and industry-specific financial practices. The Accountant will work closely with internal departments to support financial decision-making, improve cost efficiency, and enhance the company’s financial integrity.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and key metrics that drive business performance.
  • Assist in developing reports that provide insights into financial health and support long-term planning and decision-making.
  • Develop and monitor annual budgets and financial forecasts in collaboration with department heads and senior management.
  • Conduct variance analysis, comparing actual results with budgeted figures, and prepare recommendations for cost-control measures.
  • Update forecasts based on changing financial conditions or business objectives.
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely processing of invoices, payments, and collections.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies to maintain strong vendor relationships.
  • Implement credit policies to optimize cash flow and ensure timely payment from clients.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy in data entries, adjusting entries, and classifications.
  • Conduct monthly bank and account reconciliations to verify account balances and maintain data integrity.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including depreciation schedules and asset registers.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., IFRS or GAAP) and company policies.
  • Prepare and file tax returns, VAT/GST filings, and other regulatory reports as required.
  • Stay informed about changes in tax laws, industry regulations, and financial reporting standards to ensure compliance.
  • Design and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets, prevent fraud, and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Conduct internal audits to identify potential financial risks, areas of non-compliance, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and accountability.
  • Analyze costs associated with company operations, identifying opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
  • Track and report on project costs, helping project managers stay within budget and allocate resources effectively.
  • Implement financial models and metrics to support pricing strategies and evaluate profitability.
  • Monitor cash flow to ensure liquidity and operational stability, forecasting cash needs, and managing cash reserves.
  • Work closely with banks and financial institutions to manage loans, credit facilities, and interest rates.
  • Optimize working capital by balancing cash inflows and outflows effectively.
  • Utilize and manage accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, SAP) to streamline accounting processes and improve accuracy.
  • Generate ad hoc reports and analysis as requested by management, supporting data-driven decisions.
  • Support the implementation of financial management software or ERP systems, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Prepare financial documents and coordinate with external auditors during annual audits, providing necessary information and responses to inquiries.
  • Address audit findings and implement corrective actions to improve financial practices and reporting accuracy.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of financial transactions and audit trails for future reference and compliance.
  • Partner with various departments to provide financial guidance, support budgeting and financial planning, and enhance cost efficiency.
  • Offer insights and recommendations to operational teams to improve resource utilization, reduce waste, and enhance profitability.
  • Support management in strategic planning by providing financial forecasts, risk assessments, and investment analysis.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • A Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance is advantageous.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), or relevant certifications (e.g., ACCA, ICAN) required or highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, with strong experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance.
  • Experience within [industry-specific knowledge, e.g., manufacturing, engineering, construction] is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting software, such as QuickBooks, Sage, SAP, or other ERP systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial modeling, analysis, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is an advantage.
  • In-depth understanding of IFRS, GAAP, tax laws, and industry-specific regulations.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and interpret financial metrics to drive decision-making.
  • Strong focus on accuracy, with a commitment to maintaining data integrity in financial reporting.
  • Ability to present financial information clearly and collaborate effectively with non-financial team members.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and ethical conduct in handling financial information.
  • Knowledge of cost accounting methods and their applications in [industry-specific field, e.g., manufacturing or construction].
  • Prior experience in working with cross-functional teams in a matrixed organizational structure.
