Job Summary

The Assistant Lecturer in Accounting is an entry-level academic appointment intended to support teaching and early-stage academic development. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of undergraduate courses, assist in research activities, and gain foundational experience in academia. This role is ideal for candidates with a Master’s degree and professional certification who are pursuing or planning to pursue a Ph.D.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Assist senior faculty in delivering undergraduate courses such as Introduction to  Accounting, Cost Accounting, and Financial Reporting. 
  • Handle tutorials, grading, and marking of assessments under the supervision of senior lecturers. 
  • Prepare course materials, lecture notes, and instructional guides. 
  • Support the implementation of blended learning and the use of learning management systems. 
  • Facilitate student discussions, practical sessions, and hands-on accounting exercises. 
  • Serve as a tutor or adviser to undergraduate students. 
  • Participate in organizing and supporting departmental seminars, workshops, and student-led events. 
  • Offer academic guidance and mentorship under the supervision of senior faculty. 
  • Participate in departmental research projects and assist in data gathering and literature reviews. 
  • Begin developing a research interest with support from faculty mentors.
  • Attend faculty training, workshops, and academic writing sessions. 
  • Contribute to departmental publications, newsletters, or working papers. 
  • Serve on departmental subcommittees or task teams as assigned. 
  • Assist in course coordination, exam invigilation, and administrative documentation.
  • Support departmental accreditation efforts and curriculum review activities. 
  • Participate in accounting-related outreach programs and community development initiatives. 
  • Help coordinate student visits to accounting firms or regulatory bodies.
  • Attend professional development activities organized by the university or external institutions. 


Requirements:

  • Master’s degree (M.Sc) in Accounting from a recognized university.
  • Progress towards a Ph.D. (enrolment or intention to enrol) is strongly encouraged.
  • Membership or student membership of a professional accounting body such as ICAN,  ACCA, or ANAN is an added advantage. 
  • Demonstrated interest in teaching and research. 
  • Competency in using accounting software and learning technologies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
