Job Title: Chief Business Development Officer (CBDO)

Department: Business Development

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Location: Ikeja, Lagos


Position Overview:

As the Chief Business Development Officer, you will play a pivotal role in leading the company’s growth initiatives, formulating strategic partnerships, and driving revenue generation. Reporting to the CEO, the CBDO will shape and execute a robust business development strategy that aligns with the company’s goals and vision. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the fintech or financial services industry, an entrepreneurial mindset, and a proven track record in business development, partnerships, and revenue growth.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Planning
  • Develop and implement the company’s business development strategy in alignment with corporate goals.
  • Identify new market opportunities, emerging trends, and potential business models to drive growth.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to shape overall strategic objectives.
  1. Partnerships & Alliances
  • Forge and manage strategic partnerships with financial institutions, technology providers, and other stakeholders in the fintech ecosystem.
  • Identify and negotiate joint ventures, mergers, and acquisitions to expand the company's market presence.
  1. Revenue Generation & Sales Leadership
  • Develop and oversee revenue-generation initiatives, ensuring the achievement of financial targets.
  • Lead the sales and marketing teams to effectively position and promote the company’s products and services.
  1. Market Expansion
  • Lead expansion efforts into new markets, overseeing the development of market entry strategies.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify growth opportunities and position the company as a market leader.
  1. Team Leadership
  • Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing business development team.
  • Establish performance metrics and provide guidance to support team development and accountability.
  1. Brand & Product Development
  • Collaborate with product development and marketing to align offerings with market needs.
  • Contribute to brand positioning and promote a compelling value proposition for the company's products.
  1. Stakeholder Management
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including investors, board members, and key clients.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and other networking opportunities.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field; an MBA or relevant postgraduate degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in business development, sales, or strategic partnerships, ideally within fintech, banking, or technology sectors.
  • Proven track record of driving significant revenue growth and forming impactful partnerships.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and scaling teams.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic business plans and execute with precision.
  • Knowledge of the fintech industry and an understanding of financial regulations and emerging trends.
