Core mission of the role
To assist the Captain to Navigate OMS Vessels from one point to another safely, economically,
at ample time and monitor specific onboard equipment’s.
Job responsibilities
Job Duties & Responsibilities
1. Assist the Captain for the safe navigation and piloting of the vessel.
2. Assist the Captain for chart plotting and
voyage planning.
3. Take responsibility of navigational and Safety equipment on board, ensuring proper and efficient use.
4. Maintain log of the boat’s operations, detailing pertinent events that occur on the vessel while offshore.
5. Maintain proper radar watch, Radio
watch and observe bridge procedures as recommended by IMO Regulations.
6. Undertake routine maintenance tasks, safety checks and other maintenance as may be required.
7. Maintain teamwork with all personnel/crew as applicable
8. Maintain and compile a troubleshooting service logs for navigational instruments
to ensure common issues can be resolved in a more efficient manner.
9. Ensure that logs accurately reflect the current status of equipment.
10. Ensure compliance with Safety
Management System - SMS (ISM Code)
including Ship Security Plan - SSP (ISPS Code) thus allowing for safe, efficient operations
11. Carry out proper shipboard management system and have minimum knowledge and hands-on skills on the ISM/ISPS Codes audit onboard practices.
12. Maintain good communication and interpersonal good relationship with crew members and as well as conduct onboard to train.
13. Ensure that equipment failure is kept to a minimum and within contractual limits.
14. Responsible for checking all navigation tools and resources are in
good working condition before departure.
15. Carry out Safety drills on- board in
conjunction with OiC and proper notification to the client
16. Maintain, correct and prepare nautical
charts.
17. Present Voyage report at the end of each trip to reflect the status of all Navigation, Safety, accommodation and Deck equipment
18 Knowledge of IACS Class Survey and OCIMF-OVID Inspection is
highly needed.

Experience:

1. NIMASA Reg II/1 Certificate of Competency or OOW Reg II/3
2. National Diploma and/or WAEC.
3. Associate certificate from NIMASA approved
Maritime institution.
4. STCW Basic Mandatory certificates
5. NIMASA Medicals
6. Discharge Book
7. Yellow Book
8. International Passport
9. SID Number
10. ISM
Experience:
11 Minimum of 3-5 years’ work experience
