Job Description
The Head of Collections will be primarily responsible for the daily management and coordination of the collection sites’ operations across Nigeria/West Africa, including processing and production of RM, warehousing and storage, logistics
and maintenance while ensuring compliance with all Labour, SHE and Corporate policies
Key Responsibilities
Collection Strategy and Optimization
▪ Support the development and drive the implementation of company’s collection strategy, ensuring alignment with overall business goals.
▪ Monitor market trends and competition, providing valuable insights to the team on pricing, supply sources, and market conditions to optimize company’s collection strategy.
▪ Maximize operational uptime and productivity of incoming recyclable materials across multiple shifts, ensuring the efficient use of resources and minimizing material waste.
Vendor and Stakeholder Management
▪ Engage and manage key stakeholder relationships, including vendors, suppliers, communities, and regulatory agencies, to foster collaboration and ensure business objectives are met.
▪ Serve as the primary point of contact for vendors, addressing inquiries and maintaining strong relationships to ensure exceptional service.
▪ Coordinate with internal departments to align on cost, quantity, quality, and timing of recyclable material (RM) supply, ensuring seamless communication and cooperation across teams.
Site Operations and Development
▪ Oversee and manage the daily operations of all collection site and field development teams, ensuring activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
▪ Drive the set-up and optimization of new collection centers, working closely with the CEO and other team members to meet budget targets and operational goals.
▪ Engage and coordinate with external stakeholders to facilitate the establishment and smooth operation of new collection centers, ensuring alignment with the company’s objectives.
▪ Monitor and analyze the flow of recyclable materials through the SAP B1 ERP system to ensure data accuracy and operational alignment.
▪ Conduct performance audits of inbound and outbound materials, ensuring quality standards are met and waste is minimized.
▪ Provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement in processes, operations, and vendor performance.
Market and Industry Awareness
▪ Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive landscape to ensure the company's remains at the forefront of recycling operations and compliance.
▪ Monitor vendor performance and provide management with regular updates on progress, challenges, and market opportunities.
Compliance and Safety
▪ Monitor compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, ensuring all sites operate within legal and safety parameters.
▪ Promote and enforce health and safety protocols for all personnel under direct or indirect supervision, fostering a safe and productive work environment.
Reporting and Process Improvement
▪ Ensure accurate internal reporting on key metrics, including raw material counts, site inspections, downtime tracking, and audit reports.
Additional Responsibilities
- Any other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the CEO from time to time, in support of the overall success of the organization.
Requirements
▪ Bachelor's degree in business administration, management or engineering or accounting (or from a relevant discipline)
▪ Minimum of 5 - 8 years’ experience in a Plant/Manufacturing management role
▪ Experience in a Recycling, Material recovery or material handling facility is an asset
▪ Excellent negotiation and presentation skills, able to articulate the value proposition of Company’s collection strategy to internal and external stakeholders.
▪ Solid understanding of SHE/ESG (Safety, Health, Environment, and Social Governance) responsibilities and best practices within the workplace.
▪ Demonstrated experience in production, warehousing, distribution, and logistics, with an understanding of operational workflows and efficiency optimization.
▪ Strong industry networks within the recycling, logistics, and waste management sectors, with the ability to leverage relationships for business development.
▪ Proven ability to manage a budget and track financial performance, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
▪ Comfortable with numbers, able to analyze costs, identify trends, and draw actionable insights to drive operational improvements and cost-efficiency.
▪ Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage staffing levels efficiently and minimize costs while maintaining high operational standards.
▪ Willingness and ability to travel within Nigeria and internationally as required, with a travel commitment of 75-100%.
