At Standard Bearers School (SBS), we are in search of a dynamic, well-qualified, and charismatic Female Nursery 1 & 2 Teacher. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional knowledge in early childhood education and a passion for fostering young minds in their formative years. This role demands an individual who is skilled in the use of Jolly Phonics, has a deep understanding of child development, and a natural gift for connecting with young learners. Additionally, the ideal candidate must have a thorough understanding of teaching pedagogy and be able to apply this knowledge to create an enriching learning environment for children. Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

Professionalism and Conduct:

  • Demonstrate exceptional professionalism in all aspects of the role, whether interacting with children, parents, or colleagues.
  • Exhibit a high level of emotional intelligence, maintaining composure and balance in all interactions.
  • Serve as a role model for students, parents, and peers, exhibiting integrity, patience, and a warm demeanor at all times.


Lesson Planning and Instruction:

  • Design and implement engaging and age-appropriate lessons using the Jolly Phonics method and other best practices in early childhood education.
  • Tailor lesson plans to meet the developmental needs of each child, ensuring they are stimulating and effective.
  • Submit detailed lesson plans for approval to the Head of School (HOS) and adapt as needed based on classroom needs and feedback.
  • Utilize interactive learning techniques to create a fun, nurturing, and engaging atmosphere that promotes language development, creativity, and motor skills.
  • Understand and implement key teaching pedagogies such as constructivism, experiential learning, and play-based learning, ensuring each lesson is structured to support holistic development.


Classroom Management:

  • Foster a safe, supportive, and well-structured classroom environment conducive to the academic and emotional growth of young children.
  • Ensure the classroom is well-organized and free of any hazards, with appropriate materials and equipment in good condition.
  • Take full responsibility for classroom organization, cleanliness, and equipment, ensuring proper shutdown of devices when exiting the classroom.
  • Promote a culture of respect and mutual understanding among children, setting boundaries while maintaining a nurturing approach.


Student Assessment and Academic Reporting:

  • Continuously assess students’ development through both formal and informal methods, including observation, child portfolios, and activities.
  • Provide timely feedback to parents on their child's academic progress, behaviour, and personal development.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive reports on student performance, including any challenges and milestones achieved.
  • Monitor each child's academic progress and report any concerns to the Head of School promptly.


Resource Management and Accountability:

  • Ensure the classroom is equipped with age-appropriate learning resources such as toys, books, and educational materials.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring the classroom resources are well-maintained and not damaged.
  • Regularly check the condition of all learning tools and report any necessary replacements or repairs.
  • Record classroom events and activities for the purpose of internal and external documentation, including school marketing.


Behavioural Expectations and Student Discipline:

  • Establish clear, consistent, and appropriate behavioural expectations for children, with emphasis on kindness, respect, and self-regulation.
  • Work proactively to resolve conflicts among students, fostering a positive and harmonious learning environment.
  • Maintain student safety at all times, ensuring children remain within the classroom or designated safe areas.
  • Report any issues concerning student behaviour, absences, or safety to the administration immediately.


Communication and Collaboration:

  • Maintain open and regular communication with parents regarding their child’s progress, well-being, and any concerns.
  • Collaborate effectively with fellow teachers and staff to ensure the seamless running of classroom activities and the school environment.
  • Participate in extracurricular and school-wide activities, including school functions, social events, and parent-teacher meetings.
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve classroom practices and school events.


Contribution to School Culture and Growth:

  • Actively engage in school-wide initiatives and contribute positively to the school’s community and mission.
  • Ensure participation in school events and projects, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Model high standards of conduct, especially in maintaining focus during teaching sessions and fostering positive relationships with students and parents.
  • Support school marketing efforts by sharing classroom activities and children's learning achievements.


Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, including those related to fire safety, student supervision, and health standards.
  • Maintain the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the classroom environment.
  • Follow all school policies and procedures, particularly those related to child safeguarding and the proper use of school facilities.


Additional Responsibilities and Development:

  • Take on other responsibilities as assigned by school leadership, including assisting in special events or overseeing activities during breaks.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills, knowledge, and classroom practices.
  • Regularly review personal teaching methods and adopt innovative strategies to continually improve the learning experience for young students.


Requirements:

  • Applicant must be a confident, warm, and charismatic female teacher.
  • Must possess certification in Jolly Phonics, preferably from Chelis School Consultancy or a recognized early childhood education body.
  • Must have a TRCN certification.
  • Prior experience working in a nursery or early childhood setting with knowledge of Jolly Phonics.
  • Ability to nurture young children, fostering both their academic and emotional development, is essential.
  • Must understand and implement teaching pedagogy and be skilled in play-based learning, constructivism, and experiential learning.


Location: Lekki Phase 1, Lagos

Remuneration: NGN 150,000 Net
