COMPANY OVERVIEW
The BJ-Cuts Company is a new entrant into the Nigerian food industry with its food processing plant in Ogun State. We provide frozen French fries, yam fries, sweet potato fries, plantain cubes alongside plantain and potato chips primarily to the Lagos market & to all other states in Nigeria.
LOCATION
Makun (by NNPC mega station along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway), Ogun State, Nigeria.
Working arrangements – Full time. Average of 40 hours a week.
ROLE
The primary focus of the QA Officer is to ensure that food is safe and meets quality standards by monitoring the production process, from raw materials to packaging, testing, and inspection of materials, products, and equipment to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
· Performs pre-operational inspection and set up in accordance with food safety requirements.
· Performs CCP verifications, incoming material inspections, in-process product inspections and finished product quality inspections
· Perform verification and validation activities including new product launch to ensure conformance to customers and compliance to regulatory requirements.
· Ensure continuous improvement and adequacy of quality control systems to support business and customer expectations.
· Participate in the on-going development of the quality control program.
· Train the employees on company food handling policies to increase their awareness of GMPs and food safety.
· Conduct daily, weekly and monthly internal inspections. Report findings to relevant departments; following up on the corrective actions to ensure their timely completion.
· Conducts shelf-life studies of in-house retention samples as needed.
· Performs in-house calibration of inspection and monitoring equipment, such as thermometers, scales, etc.
· Keep abreast of emerging risk in the food-manufacturing sector to ensure we are proactively prepared.
· Ensures timely and accurate documentation and records keeping is performed.
· Participates in the SQF and NAFDAC inspections.
· Provides timely feedback to Management on any quality and food safety issues.
· Supports investigation of internal/external customer complaints.
· Maintenance and housekeeping of assigned areas and equipment.
This role involves working in a typical manufacturing environment with machinery and will sometimes require standing for a long period of time. Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s / Higher National Diploma Degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related scientific fields.
· 5+ years of experience in a similar role.
· Previous experience in a food manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
· Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition; ability to articulate recommendations in a clear, concise and prompt manner.
· Time management skills and strong attention to detail.
· Strong drive to deliver results on time.
· Ability to work well with others, independently and foster teamwork.
