Job Summary

The Africa Leadership Foundation (ALF) is a multidisciplinary, value—and knowledge-driven Non-Governmental Organization that focuses on Leadership, Governance, Gender Equality, Digital and Economic empowerment, Sustainable Development, and Peace. The Africa Leadership Foundation (ALF) has been involved in Leadership Development, Capacity Building, Enterprise Development and Economic Empowerment since 1988. In addition to training, ALF has conducted research in various fields of development and policy design at the national, regional, and continental levels, actively engaging with policymakers and leadership at all levels. The Gender and Development Research Officer will work closely with the Coordinator of the ALF Centre for Gender Equality and Research and support all gender activities of the organisation. The officer will have the capacity to provide technical support in developing and implementing women-specific projects and possess the requisite research skills to conduct women-specific research on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Support the coordinator in the development and implementation of the organisation's gender strategy, ensuring alignment with regional and international gender equality frameworks.
  • Conduct research on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment, including data collection, analysis, and report writing.
  • Provide technical support and capacity building to staff and partners on gender mainstreaming and women's rights.
  • Provide technical support in the development and implementation of gender-related projects, including designing project proposals, budgets and monitoring and evaluation plans.
  • Collaborate with other organisations and stakeholders working on gender equality to share best practices and lessons learned when necessary.
  • Provide support in monitoring and evaluating the impact of gender mainstreaming efforts on the organisation's programs and advocacy initiatives.


Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies, Sociology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in development research, with a focus on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment.
  • Strong understanding of regional and international gender equality frameworks and their implications for programming.
  • Experience in designing and implementing women-specific projects, including project management monitoring and evaluation.
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of other languages spoken in Africa is an asset.
