Hatchery Attendant

Responsibilities:

Egg Handling and Incubation:

• Collect, handle, and set eggs in incubators according to established procedures.
• Monitor and adjust incubator settings to maintain optimal temperature, humidity, and ventilation for egg development.
• Record and track egg fertility rates and hatchability data.

Chick Care:

• Assist with the hatching process, ensuring that chicks are properly monitored and cared for.
• Perform tasks such as sorting, sexing, and grading chicks.
• Ensure chicks are transferred to the appropriate housing or transportation areas.

Sanitation and Biosecurity:

• Clean and disinfect hatchery equipment, incubators, and work areas regularly to maintain high standards of hygiene.
• Follow strict biosecurity protocols to prevent the spread of disease and ensure the health of eggs and chicks.
• Dispose of waste materials, including unhatched eggs and chick remains, in accordance with company and environmental guidelines.

Record Keeping:

• Maintain accurate records of hatchery operations, including egg set numbers, hatch rates, and chick mortality.
• Report any abnormalities or issues in egg development or chick health to the Hatchery Manager.

Facility Maintenance:

• Assist in the maintenance of hatchery equipment and facilities, ensuring everything is in good working order.
• Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.

Requirements:

• Experience in a hatchery or poultry farm environment is preferred.
• Understanding of egg incubation and chick care processes.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain accurate records.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining biosecurity protocols.
• Physical stamina and the ability to work in a warm, humid environment for extended periods.
• Basic mechanical skills for equipment maintenance are a plus
• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
