Job Summary

A housekeeper is responsible for ensuring cleanliness, tidiness, and hygiene standards are maintained in residential or commercial environments. They perform a variety of cleaning duties, often following a regular schedule or responding to specific requests from clients or residents.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

Cleaning Tasks:

  • Perform routine cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and polishing surfaces.
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, showers, and countertops.
  • Clean and disinfect kitchens, including countertops, appliances, and floors.
  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.

Linen and Laundry Care:

  • Change bed linens and make beds according to established standards.
  • Wash, dry, fold, and iron clothing and other linens as required.
  • Handle delicate fabrics and follow specific care instructions.

Organization and Maintenance:

  • Organize and maintain closets, cabinets, and drawers.
  • Arrange and straighten rooms and common areas.
  • Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies and toiletries.

Special Cleaning Tasks:

  • Perform deep cleaning tasks periodically, such as washing windows, cleaning blinds, and shampooing carpets.
  • Handle specific cleaning requests from clients, such as cleaning upholstery or cleaning up after special events.

Property Maintenance:

  • Report maintenance issues or damages to property managers or homeowners promptly.
  • Follow established procedures for the safe handling and disposal of cleaning chemicals and hazardous materials.

Customer Service:

  • Interact professionally and respectfully with clients, residents, and visitors.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests in a timely manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy.

Health and Safety:

  • Follow health and safety guidelines to prevent accidents and promote a safe working environment.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Teamwork and Communication:

  • Collaborate effectively with other housekeeping staff and household members.
  • Communicate clearly and courteously with supervisors and clients regarding work schedules, tasks, and special instructions.


Requirements:

  • Previous experience in housekeeping or a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform physical tasks (standing, bending, lifting, etc.).
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in cleaning tasks.
  • Good communication skills and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
