Job Summary

The Janitor is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall appearance of a designated building or area. This role involves performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure a safe, healthy, and presentable environment for occupants and visitors. Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors and carpets.
  • Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, and surfaces.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors.
  • Empty trash and recycling bins and ensure proper disposal.   
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
  • Disinfect high-touch areas such as doorknobs, light switches, and handrails.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen or breakroom areas, including countertops, appliances, and sinks.
  • Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
  • Identify and report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.
  • Perform minor repairs, such as replacing light bulbs or unclogging drains (if authorized and capable).
  • Ensure that cleaning equipment is properly maintained and in good working order.
  • Organize and maintain cleaning supply closets.
  • Assist with setting up or rearranging furniture as needed.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of exterior areas, such as entrances and walkways (may include sweeping or light debris removal).
  • Follow established cleaning schedules and procedures.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Handle cleaning chemicals safely and according to instructions.
  • Report any accidents or injuries immediately.
  • Secure buildings by locking doors and windows after hours, as directed.
  • Assist with deliveries or moving items as needed.
  • Respond to cleaning requests or spills promptly.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.


Requirements:

  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in cleaning.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform repetitive tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills (to report issues or respond to requests).
