Work Conditions: Remote

Location: Abuja.

Budget: ₦400,000 monthly salary.

About the Role

We are looking for a Tech and Business Policy Correspondent based in Abuja to cover the intersection of technology, business, and policy in Nigeria and across Africa. This role is ideal for an experienced journalist with a deep understanding of regulatory and economic policies affecting startups, fintech, telecommunications, digital rights, and innovation.

As our Tech and Business Policy Correspondent, you will provide in-depth reporting, exclusive scoops, and analysis on policies, government decisions, and their implications for Africa’s digital economy. You will build strong relationships with policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, and business executives, ensuring our publication remains the go-to source for tech policy news in Africa.

This role reports to the Editor-in-Chief.

Key Responsibilities

  • Policy and Regulatory Coverage: Report on technology policies, business regulations, and government initiatives shaping the African tech landscape.
  • Exclusive News and Analysis: Break exclusive stories on policy developments, regulatory shifts, and their impact on startups, venture capital, and digital businesses.
  • Interviews and Investigations: Conduct interviews with key stakeholders, including policymakers, regulators, and industry executives, and produce investigative pieces on tech regulation and governance.
  • Event and Conference Reporting: Cover government briefings, industry summits, and policy discussions, providing timely and insightful reports.
  • Collaboration and Thought Leadership: Work with the editorial team to develop special reports, whitepapers, and editorial campaigns on key tech policy issues.
  • Newsletter and Multimedia Contributions: Support newsletters, podcasts, and webinars with insights and reporting on policy and business trends.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience: 3+ years of journalism experience, preferably covering tech, business, or policy.
  • Policy Expertise: Strong understanding of government policies affecting the tech ecosystem, including fintech regulations, data privacy laws, and digital governance.
  • Sourcing and Networking: Proven ability to cultivate sources in government, regulatory bodies, and the private sector.
  • Writing and Storytelling: Excellent writing, reporting, and analytical skills with a track record of high-impact journalism.
  • Research and Analysis: Ability to interpret legal and economic documents, such as government policies, financial reports, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Multimedia Proficiency: Experience contributing to newsletters, podcasts, or video content is a plus.
  • Location: Must be based in Abuja, with the ability to attend government and industry events.
