The Junior Accountant will support the financial operations of the non-profit organization by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, assisting with budgeting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and donor requirements. This role requires attention to detail, a strong understanding of accounting principles.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in the accounting system.
  • Process invoices, receipts, and payments in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Assist in tracking expenses and ensuring proper documentation of financial transactions.
  • Process payments to vendors and service providers in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile donor contributions and other receivables.
  • Maintain records of outstanding payments and follow up as necessary.
  • Assist in reconciling bank statements with financial records.
  • Monitor cash flow to ensure the availability of funds for operations.
  • Prepare cash disbursement reports for review by the Finance Manager.
  • Assist in preparing budgets and tracking expenditures against approved budgets.
  • Support in preparing financial reports for management, donors, and auditors.
  • Provide financial data for grant applications and funding proposals.
  • Ensure transactions comply with relevant accounting standards and donor guidelines.
  • Assist in preparing documents for internal and external audits.
  • Maintain proper financial documentation for reporting and compliance.
  • Provide general support to the finance team, including filing and data entry.
  • Assist with payroll processing and statutory deductions (e.g., taxes, benefits).
  • Support financial capacity-building efforts within the organization.


Requirements:

  • Knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS) and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage).
  • Strong skills in Excel and financial data analysis.
  • Understanding of non-profit financial regulations and donor compliance.
  • Basic knowledge of tax laws and statutory deductions.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ethical and committed to financial integrity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 2 to 4 years of accounting experience (preferably in a non-profit).
  • Experience with donor reporting and grants management is a plus.
  • Familiarity with financial audits and compliance requirements.
