Job Summary

The Lead Electrical Engineer provides technical leadership and expertise in the design, implementation (construction and commissioning), operation, and maintenance of all electrical and power systems. This role supports plant operations by collaborating with the maintenance team to implement and improve existing systems and leads electrical engineering efforts for future projects from design through commissioning. The Lead Electrical Engineer conducts risk assessments, ensures compliance with safety standards and electrical codes, and acts as the Company Technical Authority for electrical engineering, verifying adherence to equipment manufacturer procedures and industry best practices. This position also supports talent recruitment and development within the electrical engineering discipline to enhance the company’s competitive advantage. The Lead Electrical Engineer is crucial for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Gas Plant by optimizing power distribution, minimizing downtime, and maintaining compliance.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to business and strategic planning by understanding business needs and translating them into evolving engineering services.
  • Develop and implement long-term electrical engineering strategies aligned with company objectives and industry best practices.
  • Establish and lead the engineering function for the company’s equipment upgrades and new projects, including developing project specifications, procedures, and deliverables within budget and timelines.
  • Lead the evaluation and selection of new electrical equipment and technologies.
  • Participate in capital projects, providing technical expertise and cost estimations, including feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses.
  • Deliver Electrical Engineering deliverables within set timelines and budget.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-term organizational goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for the Electrical Engineering discipline.
  • Develop KPIs for monitoring the performance and progress of electrical engineers in line with the company’s HR departmental guidelines.
  • Evaluate electrical systems' safety, reliability, and performance
  • Interface with technical teams and subcontractors to support organizational goals and ensure maintenance contracts align with the company’s requirements.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to analyze, recommend, and manage spare parts inventory.
  • Analyze and resolve power system (grid, emergency, UPS) issues.
  • Manage design and scope changes.
  • Participate in HAZOPs.
  • Manage electrical contractor interfaces for power projects.
  • Provide electrical engineering input to other disciplines and serve as the electrical SME for design reviews.
  • Plan and implement new electrical projects, including cost estimation and multi-discipline coordination.
  • Recommend and implement engineering solutions to prevent power system breakdowns.
  • Evaluate, coach, develop, and mentor electrical engineering team members.
  • Provide technical support to the site electrical maintenance team, including troubleshooting during shutdowns and startups.
  • Apply manufacturer instructions for system operation and maintenance.
  • Document design methods and write reports; troubleshoot complex electrical issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses.


Requirements:

  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering with Chartered status.
  • 12 years’ progressive experience within engineering, minimum 5 years as senior electrical engineer for an Operator and been involved in onshore gas plants.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing electrical engineering teams.
  • Highly skilled in Design/Specification/Operation/Maintenance of power generation and associated equipment, including transformers, MV/HV switch gear, motors, and protection systems.
  • Must be licensed for Operation/Maintenance of MV (11,000 Volts) switch gear.
  • Good understanding of project management controls and procedures.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications, such as electrical design software, power system analysis software, and data analysis tools.
  • Experience with electrical safety standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70E).
  • Experience with Front End/Conceptual Engineering studies with respect to electrical design aspects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a facilities electrical installations database.
  • Ability to provide input to Integrity Management and Planned Maintenance planning.
