Job Summary

The Legal Officer will be responsible for handling all legal matters across Planet Capital Group and its subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks, drafting and reviewing contracts, providing legal advisory services, and mitigating legal risks.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

Legal Advisory & Compliance:

  • Provide legal advice on corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters affecting the Group.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and governance codes (SEC,FRCN, CBN, NSE, etc.).
  • Monitor regulatory developments and advise management on implications for the Group’s business operations.
  • Assist in liaising with regulatory bodies, law enforcement, and external counsel when necessary.


Contract Management & Documentation:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, MoUs, and other legal documents to safeguard the Group’s interests.
  • Maintain proper records of all legal documents, agreements, and correspondences.
  • Ensure that contractual obligations and deadlines are met by all parties.


Litigation & Dispute Resolution:

  • Assist in handling litigation matters, including liaising with external counsel and monitoring court cases.
  • Provide support in dispute resolution, settlements, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms.
  • Represent the company in legal proceedings where necessary.


Corporate Governance & Secretarial Support:

  • Support the Company Secretary in board and committee meetings, including preparing board resolutions and minutes.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate governance policies across subsidiaries.
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of statutory returns and documents with CAC and other regulatory bodies.


Risk Management & Policy Development:

  • Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with the Group’s business activities.
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing internal policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
  • Conduct legal due diligence for business transactions and investments.


Requirements:

  • LL.B (Bachelor of Laws) from a recognized institution.
  • BL (Barrister at Law) and call to the Nigerian Bar.
  • A master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., ICSAN, ICSA, ACAMS) is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-call experience in corporate, commercial, or financial services law.
  • Good understanding of securities law, corporate governance, and financial regulations.
  • Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and legal research skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.

Remuneration: NGN 400,000 minimum (negotiable based on experience)
