The Legal Officer will assist the Head of Legal in managing the company’s legal affairs, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and providing legal support across departments. The role will also involve contract management, corporate governance support, and collaborating with external legal partners.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

Legal Support:

  • Assist the Head of Legal in providing legal advice and support on a wide range of business issues, including contracts, agreements, and regulatory matters.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents to ensure the company’s interests are protected.
  • Conduct legal research on applicable laws and regulations to support decision-making and compliance.


Contract Management:

  • Ensure proper documentation and safe custody of executed contracts.
  • Track contract deadlines, renewals, and terminations, providing updates to relevant departments.
  • Support the review and preparation of standard templates and legal documentation.


Compliance and Regulatory Support:

  • Assist in ensuring the company complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Support the Head of Legal in managing the company’s regulatory obligations, including liaising with external regulators.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports for regulatory submissions and internal compliance.


Corporate Governance:

  • Provide administrative support for the management of corporate governance issues, including board meetings, annual filings, and shareholder matters.
  • Collaborate with the external company secretary to ensure timely and accurate filings, record-keeping, and compliance with corporate governance standards.
  • Assist in maintaining statutory books, including registers of members, directors, and shareholders.


Litigation Support:

  • Assist the Head of Legal in managing litigation and dispute resolution processes, including document collection and case preparation.
  • Liaise with external counsel on ongoing litigation matters and provide regular updates to management.


General Legal Administration:

  • Maintain and organize legal files, contracts, and correspondence.
  • Coordinate with external legal advisers and monitor their activities.
  • Support the Head of Legal in day-to-day legal tasks and ad-hoc projects.


Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from an accredited university.
  • Professional Qualification: Called to the Bar with a valid practicing license.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of post-qualification experience in a legal role, preferably within an in-house legal department or law firm.


Skills:

  • Strong understanding of contract law and corporate governance.
  • Excellent legal research and drafting skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with attention to detail.

  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy in legal drafting and record-keeping.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to support the legal team in resolving complex issues.


Remuneration: NGN 2,300,000 – 3,300,000 Annual
