Job Summary

This role will be based in CGPP Secretariat, Abuja and will oversee CGPP’s cross-border polio and routine immunization project across the five CGPP focal states. This role involves close collaboration with Consortium partners and CGPP’s implementing partners (PVO/NGOs) to execute the project across target states. The postholder will coordinate all aspects of the project, including execution, work plan development, budgeting, reporting, field visits, stakeholder engagement, and comprehensive project documentation, including reporting for the main polio grant.

The role is instrumental in implementing the strategic framework for strengthening cross border polio and routine immunization project and information sharing. The aim is to assist CGPP to improve cross border activities within the neighboring States and countries, ensuring there is adequate coordination and collaboration between the national and regional immunization systems.

Main Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Manage the implementation of the cross-border polio and routine immunization activities, ensuring alignment with project goals and donor requirements.
  • Develop and oversee cross-border project plans, budgets, and timelines to ensure successful program execution.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, consortium partners, CGPP’s implementing partners, and community-based organizations, to ensure effective cross-border program delivery and support.
  • Monitor and evaluate the cross-border project’s performance using data-driven insights to optimize strategies and outcomes.
  • Support the development of CGPP quarterly and annual cross-border reports, and other reports.
  • Prepare and present detailed cross-border progress reports to senior management and consortium partners.
  • Support the CGPP states to ensure synchronized polio vaccination campaigns across borders to enable coverage of all at-risk populations living across common borders
  • Support in preparing concept notes and proposals for submission, ensuring compliance with donor guidelines.
  • Conduct regular coordination cross-border states meetings to enhance collaboration on the identification and vaccination of high-risk and mobile populations including nomads.
  • Organize virtual and in-person meetings with CGPP subregional and regional networks to coordinate cross-border activities related information exchange, improve existing or develop new border health strategies, and hold trainings to strengthen cross border workforce capacity.
  • Support the processes of strengthening the quality of cross-border surveillance data collection, management, analysis, and reporting.
  • Provide technical support to the vaccination program including but not limited to TA for preparedness, capacity building and training, micro-planning, identifying areas of low vaccination coverages and providing technical support for supportive supervision of sessions sites and AEFI surveillance
  • Support the State Team leads to jointly address community engagement and advocacy challenges facing populations living along common borders and high-risk mobile populations
  • Enhance cross-border polio activities for reporting, detection, community engagement and social and behavior change, focusing on highly mobile populations and those in hard-to-reach border areas.
  • Working closely with state teams leads to providing leadership and mentorship to field program staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Support the CGPP focal states to conduct functional border/transit point vaccination to ensure all eligible children are immunized while coming and going outside Nigeria.
  • Represent the CGPP in border synchronization meetings attended by officials from across the borders leading to inform the generation of joint implementation plans
  • Conduct supervisory visits to the states to ensure high-quality activities are conducted across communities up to the hard-to-reach and international border communities.
  • Work with state to identify priority LGAs in other international border states for targeted program interventions to strengthen surveillance, planning, and implementation of OBR/SIAs.
  • Coordinate with relevant organizations to register, track, and perform other surveillance or immunization activities for incoming travelers, as well as for inclusion in future vaccination campaigns.
  • Conduct joint supervision of campaigns, beginning with collaborative meetings of health area heads and technical teams from bordering districts.
  • Ensure that all program activities comply with organizational policies, donor regulations, and relevant SoPs and guidelines.
  • Represent the CGPP at relevant meetings, conferences, and forums in the Lake Chad Basin countries
  • Attend to other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Typically, bachelor’s degree in public health, International Development, or a related field. A master's degree is highly preferred.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in polio, routine immunization, and disease surveillance programming.
  • Proven expertise in project management, critical thinking, budgeting, reporting, work plan development, and project design.
  • Proven experience working with consortium partners and community-based organizations.
  • Experience managing USG, BMGF, and other donor grants, with a strong understanding of donor requirements and compliance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data-driven solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team, with a commitment to fostering a positive work environment.

  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to multitask and deliver work to tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
