Job Summary

The Scientist will work as part of a team to supervise general laboratory operations, laboratory maintenance, and troubleshooting when necessary. The role will involve extensive interactions with internal and external personnel, involvement in training, document management, and report writing.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the appropriate use of all laboratory equipment, with necessary logs or documentation when necessary.
  • Manages and monitors the implementation of Good Laboratory Practice within the facility.
  • Regular evaluation of equipment and process performance through supervision of all Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Assessment (EQA); and ensure proper documentation.
  • Provide required support and expertise to aid the development of laboratory protocols.
  • Oversees laboratory safety and ensures that the laboratory remains in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. In cases where any non-compliance is found, document the same and ensure prompt resolution.
  • Supports the Laboratory Manager in the coordination and the smooth running of the laboratory by updating and maintaining laboratory documentation (such as SOPs, risk assessments, etc.), management of laboratory health and safety, and maintenance of equipment (purchasing, servicing, stock control, delivery of goods, etc.)
  • Ensure that the laboratory team is supported, and results are delivered promptly to the required regulatory standards
  • Supervises staff induction, staff training, and performance including appraisal input (when appropriately delegated by the Laboratory Manager/Head of Laboratory). 
  • Monitors the effective execution of all relevant service contracts of the laboratory equipment.
  • Establish and improve procedures and processes by addressing issues and risks; deploy Corrective and Preventive Action(s) (CAPA); whenever required.
  • Ensures all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and working manuals are regularly updated as required.
  • Deal with routine and non-routine queries in GCLP and related fields and communicate/resolve these issues promptly to the Laboratory Manager or Head of the Laboratory
  • Write and manage several documents including SOPs, risk assessments, and technical reports. 



Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification (B.Sc. /B. Tech./BMLS) in any Health-Related Course (Minimum of a Second Class or an Upper Credit). A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • 2-3  years of cognate work experience in progressive laboratory management, quality assurance, or supervisory experience

  • Good laboratory skills and troubleshooting of experiments
  • Good working knowledge of key laboratory equipment.
  • Experience with developing protocols for assay development and optimizing assays
  • Ability to teach and train younger scientists
  • Exceptionally good communication skills – written & verbal
  • Good Customer Service Skills.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and apply new concepts quickly.
  • Proactive, creative, and flexible.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship.
  • Strong problem-solving, training, team-building, and mentoring abilities.
