Newspaper Editor

Responsibilities:

• Breaking News: Edit breaking news in a fast-paced, 24-hour newsroom alongside other journalists.
• Collaboration: Work closely with reporters to identify and deliver timely news stories for one of the most-read English-language news sites.
• Story Generation: Generate original news stories and meet tight deadlines.
• Content Verification: Gather and verify images, posts, videos, and other content from social media before publication.
• Digital Analytics: Utilize digital analytics tools to track and enhance content performance.
• SEO: Be familiar with search engine optimization.
• Team Player: Collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments.
• Legal Knowledge: Understand the global and Nigerian Editors’ Code of Practice, as well as media and copyright law.

Requirements:

• 5 years of experience as an editor in a national newspaper.
• Strong writing and editing skills with adaptability to various tones and styles.
• Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Willingness and eligibility to travel, attend events, and work outside regular hours as needed.
• ⁠Willingness to work from Mondays to Sundays.
• Readiness to take up extra tasks when needed is a plus.

Location: Remote

Remuneration: NGN 250,000
