Job Summary

The Office Lawyer provides comprehensive legal support to the organization by handling a wide range of legal matters. This role involves drafting and reviewing contracts, MOUs, Deeds, and other professional documentations ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, advising on legal risks, and representing the company in legal proceedings. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a thorough understanding of corporate law and property law.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

Legal Advice and Representation:

  • Provide accurate and timely counsel to executives and other employees on a variety of legal topics (e.g., labor law, partnerships, property law, international ventures, corporate finance).
  • Represent the company in legal proceedings, including litigation, arbitration, and administrative hearings.

Contract Management:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to ensure the company’s legal rights are protected.
  • Ensure all contracts comply with applicable laws and regulations.

Compliance:

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of company policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations and advise the company on necessary actions to maintain compliance.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and mitigate legal risks by conducting thorough analysis and providing strategic advice.
  • Develop risk management strategies and advise management on potential legal issues.

Corporate Governance:

  • Assist in the preparation of board meetings and ensure corporate governance compliance.
  • Maintain corporate records and ensure all statutory filings are completed promptly.

Intellectual Property:

  • Manage and protect the company’s intellectual property portfolio, including trademarks, copyrights, and patents.
  • Handle any intellectual property disputes or infringement issues.

Employment Law:

  • Advise on employment law issues, including hiring, termination, workplace policies, and employee relations.
  • Ensure compliance with labor and employment laws.

Training and Education:

  • Conduct training sessions for employees on legal topics, policies, and procedures.
  • Promote legal awareness and provide guidance on best practices.


Requirements:

  • Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a practicing attorney, preferably in corporate law.
  • Certifications: Admission to the state bar association.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and travel to court or client locations as needed.


Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of corporate law, property law, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and drafting skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Work Environment: This role is primarily office-based.

Remuneration: NGN 200,000 Net
