On-Site Translator

Responsibilities:

• Interpreting: Use appropriate mining and ore processing terminology, possibly involving areas like daily life, business, utilities, machinery, chemistry, engineering, and infrastructure.
• Translation: Accurately translate documents between Chinese and English, maintaining the original meaning, tone, and context.
• Proofreading and Editing: Review and edit translated materials to ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality.
• Cultural Adaptation: Learn and adapt to Chinese corporate culture while integrating with the local culture.
• Confidentiality: Handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost caution.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other translators, editors, and team members to ensure high-quality translations.

Requirements:

• Educational Background: Experience studying in China, or at Confucius Institutes, or other higher education institutions offering Chinese courses, with a bachelor's degree or higher in any major.
• Work Experience: Experience as a translator for Chinese companies is preferred. Excellent Mandarin listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills may relax this requirement. Preference is given to those with experience working in mining sites, processing plants, or laboratories.
• Language Skills: HSK level 5 or above in Chinese, with standard English pronunciation (compared to British or American standards). Knowledge of mining and ore processing terminology is a plus. Preference for those who can understand Mandarin with a regional accent and those with strong translation skills.
• Attention to Detail: Strong focus on translation details and accuracy.
• Communication Skills: Affable personality with excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of managing local employees effectively.
• Time Management: Strong sense of time management, adherence to company schedules, and ability to work overtime long-term.

Location: Ilorin, Kwara state

Working Conditions:

• This position requires a permanent presence at the mining site or processing plant.
• Flexible work schedule based on production progress, with long-term overtime required. Overtime pay will be provided according to relevant standards.
