Job Summary
The Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing medications, providing pharmaceutical advice, and ensuring the safe and effective use of medication by patients. The role includes consulting with healthcare providers, advising patients on the proper use of prescriptions, and maintaining compliance with pharmaceutical regulations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Medication Dispensing and Management
Accurately fill and dispense prescriptions following medical guidelines.
Verify prescriptions for accuracy and appropriateness of medication.
Oversee the storage, handling, and disposal of medications to ensure safety and compliance.
2. Patient Consultation and Education
Advise patients on the proper use, side effects, and interactions of prescribed medications.
Provide guidance on general health and wellness, including nutrition, disease prevention, and lifestyle modifications.
Assist patients with questions about over-the-counter medications.
3. Collaboration with Healthcare Providers
Work closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.
Consult on appropriate therapeutic options, potential side effects, and alternative medications.
4. Inventory Management
Monitor pharmaceutical supplies to prevent shortages and ensure timely restocking.
Conduct regular inventory checks to manage stock levels effectively.
Handle purchase orders and liaise with suppliers to ensure optimal inventory management.
5. Regulatory Compliance and Documentation
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal pharmacy regulations.
Maintain accurate patient records and documentation for prescriptions and medication dispensing.
Stay updated on new regulations and implement necessary changes in the pharmacy.
6. Quality Assurance and Safety
Implement and monitor protocols for medication safety, including adverse event tracking and reporting.
Educate staff on safe handling practices and protocols.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
Valid pharmacy license in the state of practice.
In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical practices, drugs, and interactions.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
