Job Overview

The Policy and Communications Specialist at Nina Jojer Ltd will play a critical role in developing, analysing, and communicating policy recommendations for our clients, particularly in areas of strategic importance for clients. The specialist will also craft communications strategies that enhance brand presence, improve stakeholder engagement, and shape public perception. Working closely with senior leadership, this role will support clients in policy formulation, advocacy, and public relations to advance their interests and alignment with government regulations.

Responsibilities:


Policy Development and Analysis:

  • Conduct research and analyse policy changes in areas critical to client operations, including regulations affecting trade, investment, technology, and environmental policies.
  • Draft policy briefs, reports, and presentations to communicate key issues to clients, stakeholders, and government bodies.
  • Identify policy opportunities and threats to advise clients on risk mitigation and opportunity maximisation.

Communications Strategy:

  • Develop and implement strategic communication plans for both Nina Jojer and its clients.
  • Prepare and review press releases, social media content, and other communication materials.
  • Manage media relations and crisis communication, ensuring timely and accurate responses.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, business associations, and regulatory bodies.
  • Represent Nina Jojer and its clients at public forums, conferences, and policy briefings.

Advocacy and Public Relations:

  • Assist in developing and executing advocacy campaigns to support client policy objectives.
  • Work on initiatives that foster public and private sector collaboration, facilitating policy and regulatory alignment.

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E): Assess the impact of public policy interventions and government relations strategies through M&E frameworks, providing data-driven reports to stakeholders.

Event Coordination:

  • Organise and coordinate meetings, roundtables, and events involving government stakeholders, ensuring Nina Jojer Ltd’s presence and participation.

Team Work: Collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure all government and client-related activities are aligned with the company’s strategic goals.

Political Savvy: In Depth understanding of the political landscape and having an intuition for political dynamics can be advantageous in navigating policy challenges.


KPIs:


Policy Analysis and Recommendations:

  • Quality and relevance of policy briefs and analysis for clients and to the public.
  • Number of successful recommendations implemented in client strategies.

Communications Effectiveness:

  • Increase in positive media coverage for Nina Jojer and clients.
  • Engagement metrics on communication platforms (e.g., social media, newsletters).

Stakeholder Relations:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key government stakeholders within six months of onboarding.
  • Successful organisation or participation in stakeholder events.

Advocacy Success:

  • Number of advocacy campaigns successfully influencing policy changes.
  • Positive feedback from clients on advocacy outcomes and support.
  • Achieve measurable progress in advocating for corporate policy interests within one year, especially in matters related to franchise regulations.


Requirements:


Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Communications, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in public policy analysis, advocacy, or strategic communications, ideally within a consultancy or multinational context.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in policy research and analysis methodologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to distil complex information into clear, actionable insights.
  • Familiarity with digital communication tools, including social media management and content creation.

Languages: Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French or other local languages is an advantage.


Preferred Skills:


  • Analytical Skills: Ability to quickly synthesise data from various sources and identify the implications of policy changes on client interests.
  • Public Relations & Media Skills: Experience managing media relations, crisis communications, or public advocacy campaigns.
  • Government Relations: Established network with relevant government bodies or regulatory agencies in West Africa.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities and deadlines.
