Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Follow recipes to prepare doughs, batters, and other ingredients needed for baking various types of bread, cakes, pastries, and desserts.
  • Use mixers, kneaders, or hands to mix and knead dough or batter to the correct consistency and texture.
  • Operate ovens to bake bread, cakes, pastries, and other goods at the appropriate temperatures and times, ensuring they are cooked evenly and thoroughly.
  • Regularly check oven temperatures and adjusting settings as necessary to maintain consistent baking results.
  • Decorate cakes, pastries, and desserts with icing, glazes, toppings, and decorations as per customer orders or bakery standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels of baking ingredients such as flour, sugar, yeast, and ensuring supplies are replenished in a timely manner.
  • Inspects finished products for quality, appearance, and taste to ensure they meet bakery standards and customer expectations.
  • Cleans baking equipment, utensils, and work areas to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards. Performing routine maintenance on baking equipment.
  • Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure safe handling of ingredients, preparation, and storage of baked goods.
  • Work closely with other bakery staff, including pastry chefs, cake decorators, and assistants, to coordinate tasks and fulfill customer orders.
  • Interact with customers to take orders, provide information about products, and ensure customer satisfaction with baked goods.
  • Experiment with new recipes, techniques, and flavors to create unique and appealing baked goods that attract customers.
  • Train and supervise assistant bakers or bakery assistants to ensure they adhere to bakery standards and procedures.
  • Keep records of baking activities, production levels, and inventory to track performance and facilitate planning.


Requirements:

  • Must have formal training in baking or pastry arts from culinary schools
  • Obtaining certifications in food safety and hygiene.
  • Previous experience working as a baker or in a bakery setting is often preferred, especially for more specialized roles or in high-volume bakeries.
  • A genuine love for baking and a desire to create delicious and visually appealing baked goods can drive excellence in this profession.
  • Team spirit
  • Flexibility to work in shifts
  • Food safety training is a plus
  • Must pass background check which includes providing   3Guarantors and 3Referees


Other Requirements:

  • Proficiency in mixing, kneading, proofing, and baking various types of bread, cakes, pastries, and desserts. This includes understanding different baking techniques and knowing how to achieve desired textures and flavors.
  • Familiarity with different types of flour, yeast, sugars, fats, and other ingredients used in baking. Understanding how different ingredients interact and affect the baking process is crucial.
  • Ability to develop and modify recipes to create new products or adjust existing ones based on customer preferences, seasonal availability, or dietary restrictions.
  • Precision in measuring ingredients and following recipes accurately to ensure consistency and quality in the finished products.
  • Innovation in designing and decorating baked goods, including cakes and pastries, to enhance their visual appeal and appeal to customers.
  • Efficiently managing baking schedules to meet production deadlines and ensure products are available for sale at the appropriate times.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise during the baking process, such as adjusting oven temperatures or making last-minute ingredient substitutions.
  • Keeping workstations clean and organized, managing inventory of baking supplies, and maintaining records of production and sales
  • Flexibility to work with different baking equipment and adapt to varying kitchen environments and production demands.
  • Effectively communicating with colleagues and customers, including taking orders, discussing custom designs for cakes, and providing information about baked goods.
  • Endurance to stand for extended periods, lift heavy bags of flour or trays of baked goods, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understand and adhere to food safety regulations and hygiene practices to ensure safe handling of ingredients and prevent contamination.
