Our Client is a Multinational Construction Company with the head office located abroad. As part of their major project delivery in Abuja, Nigeria, they are looking for a capable Sourcing Manager to help them deliver an exciting project in Abuja.
The ideal candidate will work closely with their Delivery team based abroad and Project team based in Abuja to support through the various stages of the projects related to procurement activities.
Reports to the Head of Procurement and interface with the wider delivery team based abroad, Abuja and the suppliers in Nigeria.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the ethical sourcing of components, goods and services
- Value for Money Procurement: Implement a procurement strategy aligned with project goals, ensuring efficient cost management and timely delivery of materials and services.
- Supplier Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with local suppliers and contractors. Leverage your knowledge of the Abuja market to secure the best prices and terms.
- Lateral Thinking & Problem Solving: Anticipate potential challenges in procurement and material supply and devise creative, proactive solutions. You are a go-getter who seeks to drive the project forward, not just identify problems.
- Supplier Negotiation: Lead price negotiations with suppliers to ensure value for money while maintaining quality standards.
- Market Research: Continuously research local market conditions, supply chain risks, and potential cost savings opportunities.
- Budget Management: Work closely with project teams in the embassy to ensure all procurement activities align with overall project budgets.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure procurement activities comply with Nigerian regulations and project-specific requirements. Manage risks related to supplier performance, market volatility, and material shortages.
- Reporting & Communication: Provide regular reports on procurement activities, cost variances, and supplier performance, procurement plans / schedules and provide weekly reports. Communicate effectively with stakeholders in the embassy, providing solutions, not just issues.
- Key requirement is to be able to read standard work package scope documents, Embassy Standards or Other International Standards applicable look for suppliers to be able to meet those requirements (or equivalent).
Requirements
- Degree in Construction Engineering (preferable)
- Regular Travel within Nigeria
- Desktop computer – capable of running Office
- One large monitor (22” or above)
- MS Office
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Construction / Civil Engineering or related fields.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the Nigerian market and knowledge of local suppliers and construction costs
- Strong knowledge of local construction suppliers in Abuja area.
- Strong communications skills, excellent inter-personal skills.
- Organized and meticulous approach to work. Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Curious, always learning, hands-on, meticulous where needed – agile when required. With go-getter attitude—you are someone who delivers, not just delegates or reports problems.
- Proven experience in procurement management, preferably within the Nigerian construction industry.
- Deep understanding of the Abuja market, including supplier networks, costs, and material availability.
- Negotiation skills, with the ability to secure favorable terms from suppliers and contractors.
- Ability to think laterally, offering practical solutions to procurement challenges.
- Familiarity with preparing cost estimates, BOQs, and budget management.
- Microsoft Office Tools - MS Project and MS Excel.
- Familiarity with government projects and compliance with regulations is a plus.
- Moderate to excellent English.
