Role Description

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Purchasing Officer based in Plateau State to manage procurement for our northern operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing new produce, materials, and services to meet business needs while ensuring timely delivery. This role requires frequent travel to other states, effective supplier management, and a focus on securing high-quality, cost-efficient deals.

Responsibilities

• Manage purchasing activities for the northern operations, sourcing new produce, materials, and services regularly.
• Build and maintain relationships with reliable suppliers to ensure consistent quality and delivery.
• Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to achieve the best value for the company.
• Monitor inventory levels and order necessary materials to meet operational requirements while avoiding overstocking.
• Ensure timely delivery of all purchased goods, coordinating logistics as necessary.
• Travel to other states to meet suppliers, inspect produce, and secure new supply channels.
• Prepare and process accurate purchase orders, obtaining timely approvals.
• Collaborate with internal teams, including logistics, production, and finance, to align procurement with business needs.
• Track and monitor orders, resolving any delivery or supplier issues promptly.
• Prepare purchasing reports, including cost analysis and procurement forecasts.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant procurement regulations.
• Continuously seek out new suppliers and products to keep operations competitive and efficient.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Proven experience as a Purchasing Officer or in a similar procurement role, ideally in the agricultural or produce sector.
• Ability to travel frequently within the northern region to source new produce and materials.
• Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
• Good understanding of supply chain and procurement processes.
• Proficiency in procurement software (e.g., ERP systems) and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills with a focus on timely delivery.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
