Job Summary

The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing the financial and contractual aspects of construction projects in Lagos, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This role requires strong technical skills in cost estimation, contract administration, procurement, and financial reporting.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

Cost Estimation & Budgeting:

  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects.
  • Develop comprehensive budgets, ensuring they align with project goals.
  • Assess project designs and specifications to produce cost-effective and efficient solutions.


Contract Administration:

  • Draft, review, and manage contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with contract terms, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Administer claims, variations, and dispute resolutions efficiently.


Procurement & Tendering:

  • Assist in the tender process, including preparing tender documentation and reviewing bids.
  • Negotiate and award contracts with contractors and suppliers.
  • Ensure the procurement of goods and services is cost-effective and in line with project requirements.


Cost Control & Financial Reporting:

  • Monitor the cost performance of the project and implement cost-control measures.
  • Prepare and present regular cost reports, including forecasts, cash flow analysis, and valuations.
  • Identify and manage financial risks and provide recommendations for corrective actions.


Site Inspections & Measurements:

  • Conduct site visits to assess progress, quality, and safety standards.
  • Measure and quantify materials and labor, ensuring accurate documentation for invoicing and progress claims.
  • Inspect work quality and ensure adherence to project specifications.


Risk Management:

  • Identify potential cost-related risks and propose strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Ensure that any issues arising on-site are addressed to minimize financial impact.


Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with project managers,engineers, architects, and clients to ensure effective communication and understanding of financial aspects.
  • Provide advice on cost-effective solutions and ensure the timely completion of projects within the established budget.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Membership or affiliation with relevant professional bodies (e.g., RICS, NIQS) is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of local construction practices, materials, and cost estimation methods.
  • Familiarity with Lagos construction regulations and standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and cost management software.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in quantity surveying or cost management, with a focus on the construction industry in Lagos.
  • Experience in both pre-construction and post-construction phases of projects.
  • Previous exposure to projects in commercial, residential, or infrastructure sectors is preferred.


Remuneration: NGN 120,000 - 180,000
