Job Description/Requirements
The EU Northwest Accelerating Basic Education and Livelihood Opportunities for Children and Youth Project aims towards emancipating the poorest, underserved, and most marginalized population groups including women, girls, youths and nomads to access quality, inclusive, gender and conflict sensitive education in Sokoto, Kano, and Jigawa.
The Project has a mandate to increase access to safe, quality, and inclusive alternative/ accelerated education programmes (ABEP) for 324,000 young girls and boys (194,400F & 129,600M, 32,400 persons with disabilities (PwDs)) and support their transition into formal or non-formal education using the Accelerated Basic Education Curriculum.
The ABEP curriculum and guideline have unique features that require facilitators/teachers and education managers to gain in-depth understanding for its effective delivery. The action will therefore support the training of a team of 10 master trainers (MTs) from each of Sokoto, Kano and Jigawa states.
Since the master trainers are new to ABEP, Plan International Nigeria will be identifying National Master trainers who have experience with ABEP curriculum and guideline to provide ongoing support to the state level master trainers in Kano, Jigawa and Sokoto. This support include co-facilitating training sessions, coaching and mentoring on ABEP and monitoring step down of training.
The National Master Trainers will among other things, be responsible for providing hands-on and ongoing support to state master trainers in Sokoto, Jigawa, Kano on the Accelerated Basic Education Program (ABEP). This will include coaching and mentoring on ABEP curriculum, co-facilitating training sessions and monitoring the step- down training at different clusters.
Specific objectives
To identify and engage 15 National Master Trainers who will coach and mentor state Master Trainers in Kano, Sokoto and Jigawa in order provide support on the Accelerated Basic Education Program (ABEP) to ensure children attending the Non-Formal Basic Education programme have equitable access to quality education in a protective learning environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
In addition to the above focus, the National Master Trainer commits to the following:
- Build the Master Trainers’ capacities on content knowledge delivery, pedagogical and Social Emotional Learning skills whenever the need arise.
- Co-facilitate training sessions with state master trainers on ABEP to learning facilitators in each cluster training.
- Ensure that training is done in line with the ABEP implementation guidelines, curriculum delivery methodology.
- To use the most appropriate and context specific methodology to deliver the training.
- Ensure the training on Social Emotional Learning is conducted effectively in line with the standard.
- Provide all necessary data and documents to the project staff as well as compile and submit report for training done.
- To train and ensure that the Master Trainers have the ability to understand, cope with any challenging situation they find themselves.
- Ensure adherence to Plan International Child Safeguarding and Gender/Child Protection Policies at all times.
- National Master Trainers will support Training Facilitators in the development of the training manuals.
- As per training, the National Master Trainers shall only be paid when invited and when engaged in activities.
- The National Master trainers shall Inform Plan project staff in writing of any additional services that may be required which may be granted or declined based on availability of funds and project operational standards
QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience of the ABEP curriculum philosophy, framework and structure
- Clear understanding of the policy environment in the implementation of ABEP
- Cognate knowledge of the ABEP curriculum delivery approach and strategy
- Relevant experience in implementing ABEP
- Experience in facilitating trainings in similar contexts
- Detailed understanding on the context of implementation
- Masters or PHD in education, social sciences or similar field
