Waitress / Hostess

Responsibilities

• Welcoming guests as they arrive, checking reservations, and escorting them to their tables.
• Taking reservations over the phone or online, recording details accurately, and organizing seating arrangements accordingly.
• Providing waiting times to customers who are not pre-booked.
• Creating an appropriate atmosphere for guests that’s in line with the restaurant or bar’s image or branding.
• Communicating with the serving staff to ensure they are aware of new guests and any special requests.
• Providing a point of contact for customer feedback and helping to resolve any customer issues.
• Monitoring the cleanliness of the reception area and ensuring menus are clean and presentable.
• Ensuring cleanliness and hygiene standards are met in the front of the house area
• Answering basic questions about the restaurant's menu, specials, and hours of operation.
• Managing waiting lists during peak hours, estimating wait times, and keeping guests informed.
• Addressing guest concerns or complaints promptly and escalating issues to management if necessary.
• Keeping track of available tables and coordinating with kitchen staff to ensure efficient seating and service.
• Recommending additional items or specials to guests to enhance their dining experience.
• Adhering to health and safety guidelines and ensuring guests are seated in compliance with regulations.

Requirements:

• This position is open preferably to a female candidate
• Excellent verbal communication skills are essential for greeting guests warmly, answering questions about the menu, and conveying information clearly.
• Ability to deal with customer requests in timely and positive manner
• Self-motivated and positivity to greet guests warmly regardless of the time
• Teamwork skills to help take on tasks outside of their specific job description and to help other team members with service.
• Excellent knowledge of food and beverages, including wine pairings or in-house or regional specialties
• A strong focus on providing exceptional customer service, including handling inquiries, resolving complaints courteously, and ensuring guests have a positive experience
• Ability to stay on their feet for long periods of time, both early in the morning and night late at night.
• Ability to manage reservations effectively, maintain a seating plan, and coordinate with servers to ensure smooth service flow.
• Capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously, such as greeting new guests, managing waiting lists, and answering phone calls.
• Ability to handle unexpected situations calmly and find solutions quickly, such as accommodating last-minute changes in reservations or resolving seating issues

Qualifications:

• Must have a diploma as a minimum educational requirement.
• Proficiency in languages spoken by the restaurant's clientele can be advantageous, especially in multicultural or tourist-heavy areas.
• Basic knowledge of computer systems for managing reservations and seating arrangements may be necessary, depending on the restaurant's technological use
• Personality traits such as friendliness, patience, and a strong work ethic also play a significant role in providing excellent customer service and ensuring a positive dining experience for guests.
• Must have had experience as a waitress in a restaurant
• Team spirit
• Flexibility to work in shifts
• Food safety training is a plus
• Must pass background check which includes providing 3Guarantors and 3Referees
