Job Description/Requirements
A water treatment plant operator is responsible for operating and maintaining water treatment and purification systems to ensure the safe and efficient supply of clean water for drinking, industrial processes, and environmental conservation. They play a critical role in maintaining water quality standards and safeguarding public health and the environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. System Operation: Operate and monitor water treatment equipment and processes, including pumps, filters, clarifiers, chemical feed systems, and disinfection systems, to treat raw water from natural sources such as rivers, lakes, or wells.
2. Process Control: Adjust water treatment processes and chemical dosages to optimize treatment efficiency and meet water quality standards. Monitor key parameters such as pH, turbidity, chlorine levels, and dissolved solids to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
3. Quality Assurance: Conduct regular sampling and testing of water samples at various stages of the treatment process to assess water quality and identify any deviations from standards. Analyze test results, interpret data, and take corrective actions as needed to maintain water quality and safety.
4. Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance tasks on water treatment equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn components. Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems, diagnose issues, and implement repairs to ensure uninterrupted operation.
5. Safety Procedures: Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines to prevent accidents, injuries, and environmental hazards. Conduct routine safety inspections, follow standard operating procedures, and use personal protective equipment as required.
6. Chemical Handling: Handle and store water treatment chemicals safely and according to established protocols. Prepare chemical solutions, monitor chemical inventories, and ensure proper storage and disposal practices to minimize risks to personnel and the environment.
7. Emergency Response: Respond promptly to equipment failures, alarms, or emergencies. Take appropriate corrective actions, follow emergency procedures, and notify supervisors or emergency responders as necessary to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel and the community.
8. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, permits, and standards governing water treatment operations, water quality, and environmental protection. Maintain accurate records of treatment processes, test results, chemical usage, and regulatory reports for compliance and reporting purposes.
9. Training and Development: Stay current with advances in water treatment technology, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices through ongoing training and professional development activities. Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues and assist in training new operators as needed.
10. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other plant operators, maintenance personnel, laboratory staff, and regulatory agencies to coordinate activities, share information, and address operational challenges. Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve operational goals and objectives.
Key Competency:
1. Preventive Maintenance on WTP/DM Plant with associated Equipment's-Pumps, valves, Filters, Measuring instruments, tanks etc.,
2. Proven experience in operation and maintenance of WTP/DM Plant.
3. Strong understanding of Water systems, Chemical Processes, and related equipment.
4. Knowledge of water treatment principles and practices.
5. Efficiency Tracking for various stations like WTP/DM plant etc.,
6. Familiarity with safety procedures, emergency protocols, and regulatory compliance requirements.
7. Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to diagnose and resolve as and when required.
8. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Basic Qualification:
1. HND/OND in Chemical/Micro Biology with Higher Grade.
2. Working as WTP Operator more than 6 Yrs in any Process industry.
3. Working in any Bottling Plant is added advantage.
5. Able to speak/Understand & Good Communication skill
