Job Summary
- The Legal and Compliance Officer will provide comprehensive legal support across all aspects of Advancly's operations, ensuring meticulous adherence to regulatory requirements, drafting and reviewing contracts and facilitating the management of legal risks.
- This position emphasizes legal matters pertinent to the Company's money-lending and microfinance activities, which necessitates collaboration with regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure Advancly's compliance with pertinent laws, regulations, and guidelines, particularly those regulating money lending and microfinance operations (e.g.,CBN regulations, Money Lenders Act)).
- Draft and review loan documentation, debt instruments, and security agreements.
- Provide legal oversight for financial transactions, encompassing lending, collections and payments.
- Advise on collections, use, and storage of customer data.
- Ensure Advancly's compliance with data protection laws, such as the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and manage issues related to customer privacy.
- Support the secretarial function, including the preparation of board meeting materials and the maintenance of statutory records.
- Assist in maintaining robust corporate governance practices, including board resolutions, shareholder agreements, and compliance with corporate law.
- Assist in the development and implementation of legal strategies aimed at mitigating risks.
- Identify and manage legal risks associated with Advancly's operations and recommend preventive measures.
- Support the resolution of dispute claims.
- Advise on structuring financial products and services in accordance with applicable regulations
- Draft, review and negotiate a diverse array of agreements including loan agreements, partnership contracts, non-disclosure agreements, service agreements and employment contracts
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, such as Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Lagos State Ministry of Finance, and other appropriate authorities.
Qualifications
- LLB (Bachelor of Laws) from a recognized university; Barrister at Law (BL) qualification from the Nigerian Law School.
- 2-4 years of experience within a law firm or as in-house counsel, preferably in fintech, financial services or related sectors.
- High attention to detail coupled with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in drafting clear and concise legal documents.
- Strong legal research and analytical capabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with the fintech landscape, data privacy, and consumer protection laws.
- Proven experience in contract drafting and negotiation.
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations, money lending and microfinace laws in Nigeria.
Working conditions:
- This role is 100% remote
Salary
N200,000 - N350,000 / month.
